Nachtblumen Podcast #11 Svar
It’s time for the 11th and last episode in our podcast series for 2020. Today I am happy to present you the German-Brazilian artist Lukas Bodenstorfer also known as Svar.
Lukas’ interest in electronic music begins at early age, back in the city of Inglostadt in Germany, where he grew up. Driven by curiosity and desire to learn more about music, Lukas started to venture into nightlife, and got his first turntables at the age of 18 and learned how to play with vinyl only. After some time, he got his first gigs in his hometown. Due to his undeniable talent, he was quickly noticed and promoters from the area started booking him, which led him to often play in Nürnberg as an opening act for many established artists such as Abdulla Rashim.
Deriving inspiration from artists like Function, Mike Parker and Regis, Svar’s style can be described as deep, dark and trippy, but also high energy and dance-oriented.
Naturally, Svar made a move to Munich, where he immediately got involved into the techno scene and continued to pursue his interests in DJing. In addition to Lukas’ passion for the deep, trippy and challenging techno, he has incredible interest and love for ambient and experimental music. After meeting like-minded Javier Bähr, a new exciting project was born – a monthly radio show on Radio8000 with a full focus on ambient and experimental sounds. Since this is a pure love project with a lot of dedication from both artists, it was only natural that the next step was to turn it into a label. That Is how Rohstoff Records was born, and the radio show keeps happening monthly under that name up to this day.
A place that made a significant impact on Svar’s musical taste and DJ approach was the legendary Mixed Munich Arts (MMA) Club. As a regular visitor there, he got to know a lot of people which created the opportunity for him to become a resident DJ there and also get involved as a social media manager. As a resident at MMA, he played many different slots: warm up, closing, in the Halle, in the smaller room, and even ambient sets! It was a very important time for his artistic development, as he managed to explore different sides of himself due to the ever-changing and challenging responsibilities he got there. Lukas’ involvement in the local scene did not stop at MMA. He was often invited to play other clubs in the area like Harry Klein, Rote Sonne, and BLITZ.
A few years later he made a move to Berlin, where he is currently based. After successful Berlin debut at Griessmühle, in April 2019 he was invited to play at Tresor New Faces. After this event Lukas shifted his focus a bit and decided to take time in order to really see what he would like to do further musically. Himself and nuúm, who is another Berlin-based DJ had an idea for an event series Ungesund, but sadly the global circumstances changed a lot, forcing them to put the project on hold. In the mean time Svar is exploring his newfound passion for analog photography and is keeping the reigns of the Rohstoff Records radio show.
Press play and enjoy a little dance at home to this classic club set, to mark the end of this dark year, and celebrate the promise of a brighter future in 2021!
