Nachtblumen Podcast #12 Rosillon
The 19th of January is a special day for me as I always celebrate life on that day. Needless to say that being in Berlin has spoiled me to the maximum, as I am always able to dance to the sounds of many favourite artists. This year is a little different, but better. I get to release the most personal episode of the Nachtblumen podcast to date and dance to the beautiful music that another favourite artist of mine recorded for me!
Camille Ferdinandus also known as Rosillon is a Dutch artist based in Rotterdam. Having grown up in a very musical family of a ballet dancer mother and an opera singer father, Camille has been introduced to the world of classical music from a very early age. These circumstances led him to play some music instruments like the flute and later on drums, ensuring that music would become a solid part of his identity.
His introduction to electronic music meant pure exploration and a journey of discovery into a new world of sounds that later on got to become a very personal experience. A real turning point for Camille was his time at De School, where he got to experience the cultural aspect of this music. It was a place and time of constantly shifting and evolving music interests and exciting moments shared with like-minded people that he met on the dancefloor.
As a true music lover, Camille decided that starting a vinyl collection is a precious way to enjoy what he loved the most. Not too late after that, motivated by a panel discussion by Freddy K at ADE 19, he decided that it was time to take the next step and learn how to actually play those records! A year later, Rosillon is already releasing his third vinyl only podcast, which is an extraordinary achievement not only because of the immense talent involved, but because of the strength in spirit and passion that Rosillon demonstrates throughout this time.
Rosillon is co-founder and currently a resident of Embodiment, an event organization based in Rotterdam, where with a team of great determined and passionate people like himself, they try to break stigmas and make people more aware and critical about the electronic music culture. Embodiment comes from the dancefloor equipped with strong values and views on our scene, and they aim to create what in their eyes is a perfect club experience.
Camille’s involvement in the music scene does not stop there. Music production has always been a great interest of his, which in fact even precedes the Rosillon DJ journey. Sparked from a genuine curiosity about how sounds are being derived and processed to become the beautiful music that he enjoys, Camille has spent the last two years buying gear and learning production techniques. Essentially, one of his main goals for 2021 is to share his first creative output as a producer.
Nowadays Rosillon’s sound is mostly focused on the deep hypnotic realm of techno. After years of music exploration, he got to experience artists like Rødhåd, Ntogn and CHPTR, which paved the way for his dreams in music. As this type of techno is not that popular in the Netherlands, Camille wants to try and introduce it to people and show the beauty of true storytelling and morphing atmospheres. To him storytelling means finding the right records that have unique elements, which when combined create an otherworldly mind and body experience for the listener.
In his podcast for Nachtblumen, Camille tells the story of hope. The set is a combination of light and dark atmospheres that bring you to an obscure place, somewhat a metaphor for the world we live in right now. It also reflects his deep feelings for a special someone that inspired him to be hopeful in these times of darkness.
Press play and enjoy this vinyl only project of love.
